Tips to Live Substance Abuse – Free Life

Quitting a substance abusing habit is not easy. People strive hard to quit this habit, but many times, they fail. Every time they involve in substance abuse, they say, ‘this is the last time’, but they never stick to their word. This happens with almost everyone, who has been associated with substance abuse for quite some time.

Here, substance abuse, we are referring to, is misuse of psychoactive substances, including Alcohol and illicit drugs. Inappropriate use or abuse of prescription and over-the-counter medications, inhalants and solvents is also considered as substance abuse.

Are you one of them looking for ways to curb the problem and lead a meaningful life? Do you really think that your substance abusing habit is ruling you? Here are few simple, easy-to-follow tips that can help you stay away from this habit, which silently ruins your life.

Set goals to avoid substance abuse

We do agree that it is difficult to give up such addictions, but it is not impossible. The best way to get started is by setting certain achievable goals. Remember, fighting a habit like substance addiction is something that takes a rather long process where discipline and self-control are very essential. Begin by setting yourself small goals which are easy and meaningful to you and try to have patience throughout.

Develop and maintain a daily schedule

Setting goals is easy, but achieving them requires some hard work. To overcome all the obstacles and to reach your goals successfully, you need to define proper rules, establish an environment that supports you, and set up boundaries and self-limitations for most of the things.

Maintain a daily schedule that keeps you engaging and busy the whole day. Most cases of addiction are due to boredom and therefore prepare a schedule that is interesting. Prepare a schedule that is not very tight initially and try to follow it without fail.

Engage yourself in healthy activities

Try to engage yourself in activities that are interesting. It could be a hobby of yours or even an activity that will be of fun to you. You could enroll yourself in social groups too. Find peers and groups that are free of substance abusing habits and try to fit into their activities and way of living.

Get involved in new activities which will give you more pleasure like – sports, music, dance, cooking and so on. Make yourself busy in something till the time you go to bed; this helps to divert your attention from your past habits.

Yoga, running, walking, swimming, etc., will make both your body and mind healthy. Taking healthy and nutritious diet will help your body to regain the lost nutrients. Regular practice of all these things makes you more optimistic and helps you in leading a drug-free life.

Get involved in family activities

Your family members are the people you can trust most in your quest towards leading a healthy, substance abuse-free life. You should involve yourself more in various activities of your family. A small but meaningful thing you can practice is by resolving to join the family dinner every single day. Try to spend more time with your siblings and engage yourself in their activities. Avoid your past friends (drug abusers).

These are some simple steps to help you begin a meaningful journey with no drug in your life. Good luck!

Excerpt: License suspension or revocation traditionally follows conviction for alcohol-impaired or drunk driving. However, under administrative license suspension (ALS) laws, sometimes called administrative license revocation , licenses are confiscated and automatically suspended independent of criminal proceedings whenever a driver either (1) refuses to submit to chemical testing (blood, breath or, in some states, urine), or (2) submits to testing with results indicating a blood alcohol content of .08 % or higher.Because ALS laws are immedediate and require no proof of guilt, proponents such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving argue that they are more effective in reducing drunk driving than are traditional post-conviction sanctions, and that, in any event, driving is only a privilege. However, civil libertarians and other critics object to a procedure in which guilt is presumed and punishment is automatically imposed by the officer; they further point out that state and federal courts have held the driving privilege, once given, to be a vested right that cannot be taken

 Forensic Issues in Alcohol Testing

Forensic Issues in Alcohol Testing

$108.54

Extracted from the Drug Abuse Handbook, 2nd edition, to give you just the information you need at an affordable price. Forensic Issues in Alcohol Testing offers concise and focused information specific to the interests of forensic scientists and clinical and forensic toxicologists. It analyzes the acute effects of alcohol intoxication and the methods by which investigators can measure alcohol concentration in blood, urine, and breath. It considers extenuating circumstances affecting acute impairment by detailing the disposition and fate of alcohol in the body as well as the factors influencing absorption, distribution, and elimination. Specific chapters address difficulties in measuring and interpreting post-mortem alcohol concentrations due to poor quality of specimen, sampling site differences, and post-mortem diffusion or synthesis. Recent advances in biochemical testing make it possible to quantitate chronic alcohol ingestion, and the book analyzes the efficacy of these tests as evaluators of dependence or potential for dependence.

The quality control of ethyl glucuronide standards.

The quality control of ethyl glucuronide standards.

$49.99

Alcohol is a commonly abused drug and can lead to occupational, pregnancy and driving hazards. It is important to monitor alcohol consumption to attempt to avoid these potentially hazardous situations. Ethyl glucuronide (EtG) is a direct metabolite of ethanol and its determination in biological samples, especially urine, has gained popularity as a biomarker of alcohol consumption. Monitoring ethanol metabolites helps to distinguish between alcohol consumption and post-mortem production of ethanol. Recently, there has been a growing need for commercially available analytical standards for the target compound, EtG. The legal ramifications of challenge testing for alcohol abuse require stringent quality control of these reagents. High performance liquid chromatography followed by pulsed electrochemical detection (HPLC-PED), offers unique advantages for assessing the purity of ethyl glucuronide standards.;This thesis discusses in detail the development and validation of an HPLC-PED method. The method was validated for the purity assay of EtG standards in DI water. Additionally, purity assays of three commercially-available EtG standards are shown to highlight the successful application of this method. Results obtained from the HPLC-PED method were compared to those obtained using refractive index detection, a universal method of detection. HPLC-PED was found to be a valid method for sensitive and selective determination of EtG standards. Overall, this method meets the needs of quality control in the production of EtG to ensure the consumer obtains the highest possible quality standards achievable.
